This page contains more information for the two methods of data entry for Family Law Software, in Q&A Format, Client Software or Web Data Entry.

Client Software

Q: In what way is the data entry using this method more complete?
A: You may enter information about pre-marital (separate) property, anticipated asset allocations, start and end years for incomes and expenses, some tax information, etc.

Q: Will the software leave an icon on my desktop?
A: That is an option during the installation. You may have the icon or not. If you get one and do not want it, you can right-click it and delete it. That will not affect the program.

Q: How do I send the data to my professional?
A: There is a “Send to Professional” button in the software.

Q: Can my spouse and I combine our data?
A: Yes, but you have to take turns. One of you may enter the data, then e-mail the file to the other (using the “Send to Professional” button in the software). Then the other may e-mail it back to you, or directly to your mediator, financial planner, or other professional.

Q: How does my professional send data back to me?
A: By e-mail. You can double-click the file in your e-mail “In” box to open it.

Q: Does this create Microsoft Word or Excel files?
A: No. It creates a proprietary “Family Law Software” file.

Q: Is this method faster than Web data entry after the installation?
A: Yes, it is significantly faster because you do not have to wait for web pages to display.

Q: Can I run this on a Macintosh?
A: Yes, but the software itself is Windows-based. You can run Windows under Boot Camp, Parallels, or Fusion. Or, you can buy Crossover ($39.95 at Codeweavers.com), and run the software without even installing Windows. Some of the texts and buttons may not display correctly in Crossover, but this is a relatively minor inconvenience.

Web Data Entry

Q: May my spouse and I each create our own separate web pages, by entering different names and passwords?
A: You may do that, but you should be aware that the software can not merge the separate web pages into one client file. Your professional will have to do that manually.

Q: May I log on, print out the pages, log off, assemble the information, then log on later to enter the information?
A: Yes you may. That approach works well for many people.

Q: May I revist the page several times?
A: Yes, you may revisit the page as often as you like, until you transmit it to your professional by pressing the "Transmit Data to Professional" button.

Q: What happens when I press the "Transmit Data to Professional" button?
A: You will be asked to confirm that you are ready to send your information and then it will be sent to your professional. After that, he or she will have your information and will make any changes.

Q: May my spouse and I each log in from separate computers?
A: Yes, you may each log in separately, as long as you each know the access ids, name, and passwords. You should not both be on the same page at the same time, however.

Q: On the web page, how do I move from one field to the next?
A: To move from one field to the next, use your mouse to click in the next field, or use the <Tab> key on your keyboard. Do not use the <Enter> key, as <Enter> signals that you are finished with the page. (You can get the page back, but you have to wait for it to open again in your browser.)

Q: How do I save each page's data?
A: There is a "Save" button at the bottom of each page.

Q: What if I don't know something that is asked for?
A: No problem. Just enter what you do know. Perhaps make a note for yourself to discuss it with your professional.

Q: For expenses, what time period should I enter: "weekly," "monthly," "annual," or all three?
A: Enter the expense for any one time period (weekly, or monthly, or annual). The software will take care of converting to the others as needed.

Q: Can I start with this method of data entry and switch to Client Software?
A: Yes. After you transmit your file to your professional, you may download the client software. Then your professional can e-mail your data file to you, and you may open it in the client software.
