Release Notes for Version 6.02 released Feb 26,
2004
This release integrated the Advisor with Guidelines (now including Connecticut and Rhode Island) and our new Financial Affidavit.
1. Integration. Data that you enter in the Advisor now flows to the Child Support Guidelines.
Help texts on each guideline page explain where in the Advisor to enter data for that page (or line item).
Also, you may type over the carried data, if you wish.
Where the Guidelines call for tax estimates, we make a tax estimate using the numbers entered in the Guideline, separately from our tax estimate in the Advisor. This means that numbers that you type into the Advisor have full effect, not only directly affecting the Guideline calculation, but affecting the tax deduction line as well.
2. New Child Support Guideline Calculators. We are introducing Child Support Guideline Calculators for
Connecticut and Rhode Island.
3. New Financial Affidavits. We are introducing general Financial Affidavits for income and property. These are located on the new "Affidavit" tab in the software.
4. New expense list for detailed expenses. If you want data on living expenses (including union dues, child care, health insurance, medical payments, etc.) to carry to the Guidelines or Affidavits, you should choose the "Detailed Method" of entering living expenses. Using that method, we provide an extensive list of expenses which you may complete.
5. More auto-filled data. We auto-fill more line items, saving you time. You can always simply change the entries we fill. Here are some examples:
Names: We recognize many common male and female names and automatically indicate them as Husband or Wife.
Custody: We automatically enter the wife as the custodial parent. Again, we do this just to save time, since that is most often the case. But you can change custody to "Husband" just as quickly and easily as if we had not auto-filled that field.
Child Support and Alimony: Child support and alimony auto-fill the payer to be the non-custodial parent of the first child. Child support now auto-fills a date 18 years in the future as the "end" date. Alimony auto-fills a date 5 years in the future. These are mainly intended to help you see "in the ballpark" results if you forget to enter these numbers yourself.
Exemptions: We automatically set the tax exemption to follow custody. Again, you may change that at any time.
Residence: We automatically enter the wife as the resident in the first residence, the husband as the resident in the second (if there is one).
Pensions. We auto-fill many of the most common entries in the defined benefit calculation, including the interest rate, thus simplifying the data entry on that screen significantly.
More. These are just some examples. You will see many more as you use the program.
6. Terminology changes. The "Clients" tab is now the "Files" tab. "Support" is now "Guidelines." In reports, "Net after-tax income" is now "after-tax cash." And "Accumulated net income" is now "Accumulated savings."
7. Floppy drive transfers. We made it smoother to transfer client files to and from floppy disks. Now, use the "Floppy transfer" link in the "Files" tab.
8. Various program fixes. We fixed calculation problems relating to post-retirement pensions, reporting of equity in reports for homes purchased in the future, and several other smaller items. We thank the customers who reported those problems to us.
