Release Notes for 12_02
This version introduces Multi-screen Child
Support on the Lawyer tab. The states to which we have added this
are: Connecticut, Illinois, New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.
Screens after the first screen open when the first screen is selected.
They close when a non-child-support screen is X’d.
Taxes for Guidelines. We now use the same 1040 calculations for
guidelines that we do for the current year on the Planner or Lawyer tab.
Filing Jointly. If parties are filing jointly in the current
year, by default federal taxes will now be allocated between the parties
proportional to Federal Gross Income. Previously, the default was 50/50.
Also, Self-employment tax was being calculated slightly incorrectly in
the joint-filing case. That has been fixed. And, when dividing joint tax
according to gross income, we were not backing out alimony. We are now
doing that.
Taxes on Alimony. We have added an option to include or exclude
alimony of the current relationship for purposes of the tax calculation
that is used for Guidelines.
Local taxes. We have changed the default on local taxes to be
“none.” Previously, the software remembered the most recent local tax
entry, but that has proved to be confusing and causing errors.
Non-wage Income. On the Lawyer tab, in the guidelines, you may
now select “Non-tax” for non-wage income at the top level.
“New Case” button. On Lawyer tab > Child Support Data screen, the
New Case button now automatically populates the case with “Husband,”
“Wife,” and “Child.” The result is that after clicking “New Case,” all
you have to do is enter income amounts and go from there. It makes child
support calculations much faster.
Health Insurance. Health and dental insurance expenses now
default to the tax category of “Payroll tax deduction.” Previously, they
had defaulted to the tax category of “medical expenses.” They may still
are easily be changed from one to the other by clicking “more info” and
changing the Tax Category.
Living Expenses. On the Planner tab, the Living expense screen
now shows tax category at the top level, and moves start and end dates
to the “more info” level.
Child Support. For testing whether a child is young enough to
qualify for child support, we now look as of the moment the person is
typing. Previously, we had looked as of the end of the current year.
Pennsylvania guideline. Several enhancements:
- Updated Pennsylvania to have the option to use the May 2010 guideline
or the current guideline.
- Made the current form two pages, with room to add a note at top or
bottom, and added an optional “Summary” report.
- Added a section for optional adjustments for other expenses.
- Added an “X” box for 50/50 parenting.
Pennsylvania Inventory. Several enhancements:
- Now, we have an option to print without values of assets.
- Redid the Inventory layout itself to be more clear.
- Added an Allegheny County form for assets & liabilities.
New Jersey guideline.
- Clarified the treatment of Split Custody, and moved Split Custody “X”
box to the top level.
- Shared custody. Now shared custody may be set only if all children
have the same parent as the parent of primary residence. (Otherwise,
split custody applies, not shared.)
- Added an additional tax allowance for “head of household” and “filing
jointly with new spouse” filing statuses.
New Jersey Case Information Statement. Several enhancements:
- Added an option to print a blank NJ Case Information Statement.
- Added an entry for CS number at the top right of the child support
worksheets (sole & shared).
- Added an entry for “CS Number” on Case & Assumptions screen.
- Added a second description line for all assets.
New York Guideline. Removed the option to select $80,000 as the
threshold. Now the limit is always $130,000.
Illinois Disclosure Statement. We are now carrying the cell phone
number to the phone line on the Disclosure Statement.
Florida Affidavit. Several improvements:
- Made "other party" fields wider (55 vs old field with of 40).
- Added second address line and "note" line after fax line.
Window size. If the Window was not maximized when you last used
the program, it now will not be maximized the next time you start.
Royalty income. There was an error adding non-wage royalty income
for tax purposes that caused that income to be overstated. In
California, it could have been dramatically overstated. That has been
fixed.
