Where to Go
If you are the spouse who is leaving, it's best, if you can afford
it, to go somewhere on your own. Jeff is going to get a small
apartment in town.
Second best is to go live with your parents. You tend to become
re-involved in your role as a child of your parents, and that
distracts you from getting an objective view of your marriage. But
because an apartment is too expensive, this is what many people do.
And least best is to divide the house. In a divided house, the
problems just tend to get much worse. And in a divided house, you do
not get the personal space in which to reflect on and try to
understand yourself, your spouse, and the marriage.
